The Art of Infighting

fightingDid you know that there is large group of people who actually believe they are called by God to tear down other Christians and Christian Ministers?

I was shocked to learn that there is a whole classification of web sites whose sole purpose for existing is to call out ministers and ministries. They are called “Online Discernment Ministries” or “ODMs” for short.

In another blog, I have already addressed the need – and God’s desire – for unity among believers so I will assume we are good on that. That being said, I am more than a little confused that people are dedicating their lives to often-times minor doctrinal disputes or differences of opinions when their time could be used for something far more effective and fruitful.

One day the disciples were offended that another group was going around casting out demons. They wondered what in the world this other group was thinking. After all, Jesus had given them that assignment. Ready to smack somebody, they went to Jesus and asked if they should rebuke this other group. (I tend to think that they were actually suggesting it.) Jesus was clear, [If they are] “not against us, they are for us” (Luke 9:50)

In case that wasn’t enough, Paul told the Romans to “Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.” (Romans 14:1)

The bottom line is, family members do not always agree with one another. That doesn’t mean the one who disagrees is evil. That is precisely what the enemy wants us to believe. He knows if he can keep us fighting with each other, we won’t be doing any damage to his empire and he can keep our friends and loved ones firmly in his grip. After all, who wants to join a family that is always fighting.

When we are born again by the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are one in him. WE are the Body and the Bride of Christ. You may not like how your left hand looks or how it writes, but you are in great need of mental – and physical – healing if you cut it off.

Come on brothers and sisters, let’s get this thing together before Daddy has to come down here and straighten us all out.

Shalom!
